Group warns against further attacks on herdsmen – Lawyers
A coalition of legal practitioners under the auspices of Right Without Violence on Thursday warned against disparaging Fulanis, saying they reserved the right to reside anywhere in Nigeria.
They warned that the ongoing trend of disparaging Fulanis was dangerous and totally against the unity of the country.
Ahmed Jibril, Coordinator of the group, stated this in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Jibril called on the Federal Government to urgently take steps towards putting an end to the lingering crisis between herdsmen and farmers.
He also urged the Federal Government to investigate and apprehend those behind the present crises and ensure they face justice.
According to Jibril, “Our survival as a nation is at stake. We cannot sit down helplessly and watch. Federal Government must take urgent steps to avert bloodshed in Nigeria. Fulanis are bonafide citizens of Nigeria and they have the right to live anywhere in Nigeria just like any other Nigerian.
“We shouldn’t allow Nigeria to be like Rwanda, Burundi or Liberia, where ethnicity threw them into prolonged crisis, because a house divided against itself cannot stand.
“The signing of anti-grazing law by Benue and Taraba States is dangerous and total violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The two states should be held responsible for the loss of lives, which their reckless action caused.”
